THE BALI SPIRIT FESTIVAL is fast approaching, and that means hundreds of yoga fanatics, teachers, beginners, and professionals will be converging on the paradise island to practice the ancient art of wellbeing.

The festival embodies the core mantra of Balinese Hinduism known as Tri Hita Karana, which means to live in harmony with our spiritual, social and natural environments. Festival-goers can look forward to yoga, dance, healing, and world music – sounds like the ultimate relaxing dream.

Buying a private island is more affordable than you think

The upcoming festival got us thinking – yoga and spiritual wellbeing isn’t limited to an airy studio or annual festival, it’s for the everyday.

So if you’re not attending the festival being held in Ubud between April 2 and April 8, or perhaps you simply can’t wait that long, then head to one of these five incredible spots in Bali to get your yoga on and snap a shot that will be worthy of the double-tap.

Gateway to Heaven – Pura Lempuyang

Chances are that if you’re planning a trip to Bali, Gateway to Heaven at Pura Lempuyang will already be on your must-see list.

The Gateway can be found in a complex of six temples that begin on a low pathway and meander up the mountainside until you reach the brick gate. The symmetry makes for stunning photos and the perfect place to practice a spot of yoga.

However, if there is a queue of people waiting to get that 100-plus-like picture, just like you, then do your groove and hurry on out – you don’t need to be that person.

Catch the sunrise on Mount Batur

The Mount Batur volcano is one of Bali’s four primary sacred mountains, according to Hindu belief. Jutting out of the ground at around 1,717m above sea level, a trek up here isn’t for the lazy or unadventurous.

One of the most popular treks up the active volcano is the Mount Batur Sunrise Tour which departs promptly at 2.30am and arrives at the base of the mountain at 3.45am.

As you trek, you will see the sun start creeping up above the clouds and by the time you hit the summit, the sky will be awash with yellows, oranges and pinks, making for the perfect backdrop to your Vriksasana pose.

Can you really say you’ve been to Bali if you haven’t taken a picture standing atop of the Tegalalang Rice Terraces? This is one of the most iconic spots on the island, and it fills up pretty quickly so make sure you get there early to get the shot you want.

Hidden canyon Beji Guwang

A post shared by Alex Kioka (@alexkioka) on

Finding stunning spots such as Hidden Canyon at Beji Guwang remind us of the power and supremacy Mother Nature is capable of.

The canyon has been carved out over millions of years to reveal rippling rocks and lush green plants that thrive in such mineral-rich conditions.

Located just 30 minutes outside of Ubud, this is a great place to go for a short trek through local farms and fields before reaching the main event.

There is so much opportunity for a variety of yoga-pose photos, but we think you might be more inclined to just take a few snaps and then jump in the water to cool off after your trek.
