Tokyo Disney Resort’s rumored new park will be sky-themed

Tokyo Disneyland, a 115-acre theme park at the Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, first opened its doors to the public on April 15, 1983.

It’s the first Disney theme park to open outside of the US.

Modeled after California’s Disneyland and Florida’s The Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland is made up of seven themed lands.

As of the end of March, a total of 720 million fans have visited Tokyo Disneyland and the nearby Tokyo DisneySea (the only DisneySea in the world).

News emerged earlier this year that there are plans to expand the park.

OLC chairman Toshio Kagami confirmed expansion plans are underway. “We would like to create the next Disneyland with everyone for a new dream,” he said.

Although the scale and timeline of the expansion haven’t been set, the operator does have plans to open a new Beauty and the Beast-inspired area by 2020.

Also, according to earlier rumors, the expansion will include an outer space themed park called DisneySky, inspired by futuristic travel and aerodynamic flight.
