THE LONG-AWAITED movie adaptation that every Asian has been going mad for is finally coming to silver screens worldwide and the excitement is at an all-time high.

And who can blame these crazy Asians anyway? It is, after all, the first Asian representation in Hollywood since the mostly Asian-casted The Joy Luck Club in 1993.

Which, by the way, was also a movie adaptation of a popular novel.

Directed by Jon M. Chu (of Now You See Me 2 fame), Crazy Rich Asians stars, you guessed it, Asians. But not just any Asians. The film features a stellar all-Asian from around the world.

This includes Henry Golding, Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu (who incidentally was also in The Joy Luck Club), Harry Shum Jr., Pierre Png, Carmen Soo, Nora Lum (otherwise known as Awkwafina), and many more.

Based on the novel by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians centers on New York City Chinese American economics professor Rachel Chu (played by Constance Wu) who accompanies her boyfriend, Nick Young (played by Henry Golding) to Singapore for his best friend’s wedding.

Unexpectedly, she is thrust into the lives of Asia’s rich and famous. She also discovers that her boyfriend comes from a super wealthy family with a dark past and that every woman wants him.

Much of the movie was filmed in Singapore but there were also some scenes that were shot in Malaysia.

Take a look at some of the locations that were featured prominently in Crazy Rich Asians.

You may want to put them on your travel bucket list:

Bukit Pasoh Road, Singapore

Located in Tanjong Pagar within the Outram Planning Area of Singapore, Bukit Pasoh Road is lined with heritage shophouses, boutique hotels, and hip restaurants.

In the trailer, Rachel Chu and Goh Peik Lin (played by Awkwafina) can be seen having a conversation at an alfresco bar table located along the road.

Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

Gardens by the Bay is an awe-inspiring 101 hectares garden set in the heart of the city with three waterfront gardens and spectacular towering supertrees.

There’s no setting more perfect for the Chinese-themed wedding reception of Colin Khoo (played by Chris Pang) and Araminta Lee (played by Sonoya Mizuno).

CHIJMES Hall, Singapore

CHIJMES (Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus Middle Education School) is a heritage Gothic-styled building which began life as a Catholic convent known as the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ).

Today, it boasts bars and restaurants, and the location where fictional the First Methodist Church wedding of Colin Khoo and Araminta Lee took place.

Newton Food Centre, Singapore

Located just one MRT stop away from Orchard, Newton Food Centre is a huge hawker stall that is an Asian food galore serving every single type of cuisine imaginable.

Not only is it a popular spot for both locals and tourists, it is also where Colin Khoo and Araminta Lee took Nick Young and Rachel Chu the moment they arrived in Singapore.

Marina Bay, Singapore

The Marina Bay skyline is probably one of the most iconic sights of Singapore, consisting of Marina Bay Sands, the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum, Singapore Flyer, and the Gardens by the Bay flower domes.

Night shots of the 55-story-high Marina Bay Sands Skypark and its rooftop infinity pool complete with aqua aerobics swimmers make an appearance.

Merlion Park

The true iconic of Singapore is its most recognizable half-lion and half-fish statue, the Merlion, which was first used in Singapore as the logo for the tourism board.

There are plenty of Merlion statues scattered around the island city-state, but only five are recognized by the Singapore Tourism Board, including the ones at Merlion Park and Sentosa Island.

Langkawi, Malaysia

Located some 30 kilometers off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia, Langkawi (the Jewel of Kedah) an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea.

The cast of Crazy Rich Asians trekked to the exotic island during the production of the film, presumably to shoot scenes from Amarinta Lee’s “bloody” bachelorette party

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Malaysia

Also known as The Blue Mansion, the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is one of the most iconic boutique heritage hotel in historic George Town, Penang.

If you’ve seen the trailer, it is pretty hard to miss the flash of striking blue color. This was confirmed by the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion management as well.

Crazy Rich Asians is set to be released in Asia on Aug 22, 2018.
