The last quarter has seen many hotel openings in major tourist destinations. Located literally a skip, jump and hop from Patong Beach, Four Points by Sheraton Phuket Patong Beach Resort has soft-launched since October, featuring 600 rooms and suites across six accommodation choices.

Forty-five minutes from HKT (that is Phuket International Airport), the brand new property is the first Four Points property in Phuket and is developed in partnership with Jee Teng Phuket Company Limited. The other first is that it’s the first Four Points with a resort suffix in its name in Southeast Asia while there’s only a handful of Four Points resorts out of the total 250 properties worldwide. Given its feel and location, I would say it lives up to the word.

First Impression

The overall vibe is a blend of Peranakan motifs, southern flair and streamlined shapes. A modern stay with a homage to the locality, if you will. The spacious open-air lobby serves as a viewpoint to appreciate a turquoise U-shaped swimming pool that runs around the central courtyard filled with tall trees, cabanas and plenty of sun beds.

Rooms start at 27m² for the Superior type. If you tumble and roll in your sleep, the good news is that they’ve supersized their comfy beds for both king and twin. They take family vacay seriously as evident in Family Suite, which easily accommodate three people within 79m². It’s basically a master bedroom, a living area and a kid’s room combined. They don’t kid around with the kid room either as it comes with a nautical theme, being decked out from the blue-sky ceiling down to the boat bed floating on the wave floor. There are about 30+ Pool Access rooms with direct pool access to the saltwater pool from their private balconies. The top choice is Ocean View Suite, of which there are only three of them. This is where you can sip on an ice-cold Best Brew, a Four Points signature feature that highlights local craft beer, while watching the sunset from the balcony.

Staying In

The breakfast at all-day dining Chao Leh Kitchen (as in fishermen, not tricksters) is definitely a highlight. The morning selection is plentiful and varied to suit different cravings from made-to-order guay tiew, cold cuts, egg dishes, dim sum, hot dishes, ice creams, salads to a special dish of the day. Return during lunchtime or dinnertime for a la carte Phuket and classic Thai recipes. You can dine in air-con comfort or al fresco with a view of the swimming pool.

For less serious eats and drinks, you have the lobby bar, the swim-up pool bar and The Deck. Do check out The Deck as it’s where you can hang out at the edge of an infinite swimming pool while viewing the sunset on Patong Beach or enjoy a cocktail while relaxing in a sunken seat that lights up from underneath at night. Sears & Co., which specialises in grills, is the other serious F&B outlet and it’s coming soon.

Break into a sweat at the 24/7 gym with various equipment for cardio, resistance or free-weight exercises or go on an IG spree with more than 70 murals scattered within the precincts. They feature hand-painted Peranakan imageries such as peony, fans, tea tin boxes and more. Four Points also aim to attract events and functions with two ballrooms and outdoor spaces.

Going Out

There isn’t much going on right now in the immediate radius, besides the beautiful beach, as Patong has been very quiet compared to its former lively self. You know why. Old Phuket Town, which is about 30- minute drive from the resort, sure provides you with more choices of things to do (and backdrops for your photo ops too). Flanked by colourful Sino-Portuguese shophouses that house various cafes and shops, the Lardyai walking street on Thalang Road has been back since July and opens on Sundays from 4-10pm.

Final Verdict

Four Points by Sheraton Patong Phuket Beach Resort aims for a grand opening around Chinese New Year when all facilities will be on full cylinders. With a great location near the northern tip of Patong Beach, the resort is off to a promising start. If you’re considering Phuket for your year-end celebration, the resort is offering a limited time offer until Dec 12. After using Rao Teaw Duay Kan discount, a night for two with breakfast costs only 1,108 net. It goes even lower to B864 if you opt out of breakfast. It’s valid for stays until Jan 31, 2021.
