THIS YEAR’S Valentine’s Day was unlike any other for British Airways, UK’s flag carrier.
The international airline celebrated Valentine’s Day by ensuring all cabin crew on a 14-hour flight were couples who work for the airline. Specifically, there were five couples who worked onboard flight BA245 from London’s Heathrow Airport to Buenos Aires.
The cabin crew sweethearts were on cloud nine flying together on flight BA245. After which, they enjoyed a romantic getaway in the Argentinian capital.
For three of the couples it was love at first flight, when they met while working at the airline, with one couple recently going back up the aisle to get married and another celebrating their engagement in December.
Cabin crew couple Carl Bloor, 37, and Nathan Weekes, 42, from Bristol, joined the airline four years ago. They got married last November.
“We’ve been together 13 years – we work well together in every aspect of our lives, so working as colleagues on board is no different. We’re over the (honey)moon to be showing our customers some British Airways love on this very special flight,” British Airways quoted Bloor as saying.
They have traveled all over the world together and while working for British Airways they have visited New York, the Caribbean, Turkey, Spain, and Florida.
Another cabin crew pair, Aimee Anders, 21, and Christopher Coyne, 26, also found love via British Airways. They have flown together on 17 trips and they just got engaged last December.
“We absolutely love working together and our jobs have afforded us some amazing opportunities – we’ve been on a horseback safari in Johannesburg, to Mardi Gras in New Orleans, to Niagara Falls in Toronto and wine tasting in Santiago!” Anders gushed.
And in speaking about how they keep things going despite their busy schedules, Anders said they “stay in ‘contact as much as possible over FaceTime, stay in the same time zone if possible and remember to make time for each other on your days off.”
Of course, they have also enforced a “no plane talk” rule at home.
Additionally, British Airways also surprised 100 customers with the trip of a lifetime, by upgrading their seats from World Traveller (economy) to First.
The upgrades are part of the airline’s commitment to mark its centenary year with 100 acts of kindness as part of its #BAMagic100 campaign.
The unexpecting customers were surprised with the gesture as they checked in for their flights. Some were traveling to celebrate their wedding anniversaries, others to visit a loved one and some were embarking on a holiday of a lifetime.
Unbeknown to them, the airline was prepared behind the scenes to upgrade customers with inspiring stories. Once upgraded, the delighted customers were then directed to The First Wing where they got to start their luxurious First-class experience in style.
