VIETNAM’s national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, has rolled out onboard WiFi starting today.

The exciting move is a part of its strategy to become a digital airline by 2020  and an international five-star airline in the future, all in the name of enhancing customer experience.

“With the goal of becoming a digital airline, Vietnam Airlines continues to take the lead in adopting information technology to bring customers added service. By providing the first in-flight Wi-Fi service in Vietnam, we hope to bring passengers a brand-new experience and convenience by allowing internet usage during the flight,” Vietnam Airlines executive vice president Le Hong Ha said.

This marks another milestone for Vietnam Airlines as it was the first to provide wireless-streaming services on its Airbus A321neo fleet.

Passengers can now stay connected via WiFi accessibility on selected Airbus A350 aircraft on Vietnam Airlines-operated routes linking Hanoi with Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai, and Osaka, as well as Ho Chi Minh City with Osaka and Singapore.

The service can be used for texting purposes through popular texting applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger, iMessage, and Viber, to name a few while cruising at 30,000 feet in the air.

Priced between US$2.95 to US$29.95, passengers can choose packages to suit their desired usage length with a maximum data capacity of up to 80MB. The package is valid until the end of the journey and can be used on a variety of device platforms but not multiple devices at a time.

Payments can be made online via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, or Diners Club credit cards once the aircraft completes its ascent.

In conjunction with the launch of the WiFi service, Vietnam Airlines will offer 30 minutes of free WiFi use from October until the end of December 2019 which enables passengers to send text messages during their flights.

To help passengers to identify flights equipped with WiFi service, the airline will notify passengers at the check-in counters, through signage at the aircraft gate, service manuals at the front seat bag on the aircraft, and also through in-flight announcements.

Vietnam Airlines currently operates 94 routes to 21 domestic and 29 international destinations with an average of 400 flights per day, connecting the world’s major cities to travel destinations in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar.

Moving forward, the airline will continue to work at offering the service in other Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 aircraft with faster speed and better accessibility, as well as further invest in advanced technologies and the development of high-quality products and services.
