THE Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia, US continues to top the passenger market because of its location as a major connecting hub and port of entry into North America.
A whopping total of 104 million passengers passed through the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport last year, making it the busiest airport in the world, and for the 21st consecutive year.
This is followed by the Beijing Capital International Airport in Beijing, China at 101 million passengers, growing by 5.4 percent, and Dubai International Airport in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at 89.1 million passengers, increasing by only one percent.
Globally, passenger traffic increased to 8.8 billion last year, a 6.4 percent increase. With airports in Asia growing at record rates, it is clear that travel trends are leaning towards the region.
