THE Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has just released its 2019 Global Liveability Index Report, which compares the living conditions of every single country in the world.

To compile the report, the EIU examines the quality of health care, education, infrastructure, stability, and culture when assessing the living conditions of each city. More than 30 factors are taken into account when calculating each rank, with a weighted score between one and 100.

Taking the top spot is Austria’s capital city of Vienna, for the second year in a row. Boasting an almost perfect score of 99.1 out of 100 for stability, culture and environment, education and infrastructure, and health care, Vienna beat out all other popular contenders in the list.

The Austrian destination is known for its good economy, stable political system, low crime rate, efficient public transportation, picturesque countryside (half of its urban surface areas are covered with some sort of greenery), and vibrant cultural scene.

Among EIU’s top 10 most liveable cities in the world, five are located in Asia Pacific. Here is how they are ranked:

2. Melbourne, Australia (98.4)

As Australia’s fastest-growing city, Melbourne is also tipped to overtake Sydney as Australia’s biggest city by 2030.

It is also home to universities that consistently rank among the world’s best and wildly popular for its pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.

While it is known as a destination for arts, culture, and other international events, Melbourne’s infrastructure, business environment, talent pool, and lifestyle make it a choice destination for tech companies to set up shop.

3. Sydney, Australia (98.1)

The staggeringly stunning harbor city of Sydney is the most populous city in Australia and Oceania.

Located on Australia’s east coast, the metropolis surrounds Port Jackson, Sydney is made up of 658 suburbs, 40 local government areas, and 15 contiguous regions. It is constantly bustling with Sydneysiders (as locals are called), things to do, places to eat, and a chockfull of adventures.

Picture-perfect are its skyline of skyscrapers and the stark blue waters of its busy waterways, as well as its sun-splashed shorelines and eclectic range of trendy waterfront eateries.

It is no wonder that Sydney remains one of Australia’s top destinations.

4. Osaka, Japan (97.7)

When considering where to live in Japan, Osaka should most definitely be at the top of your list.

Found on the curve of Osaka Bay, Osaka is Japan’s third most populous city, where a whole world of fascinating culture, cuisine, history, unique experiences and some of Japan’s best shopping awaits you.

If you are looking for a destination that can combine the culinary excellence and bustling vibrancy of Tokyo with the cultural curiosities and historical relics of Kyoto, then Osaka is the place for you.

7. Tokyo, Japan (97.2 tied with Toronto, Canada)
